Unmasking the Reality of Lung Cancer

Unmasking the Reality of Lung Cancer - Masks & Butterflies Gala 2024
WITHOUT LUNGS YOU HAVE NO LIFE
This is lung cancer, it’s past, present, and future.
We cannot change the past, we deal with the present with everything we have, but we can create the future by what we do today.
Lung cancer is nearly invisible on the spectrum of the disease. At least when it comes to awareness.
These are not just numbers but are people, with hopes, dreams, passions; they are a family member, your next-door neighbor, a co-worker, or the stranger standing beside you. That is because anyone can get lung cancer. There is no “type”: Smokers, never smokers, young, old, male, female. All that you need are lungs!
For too long lung cancer has been #1
- #1 as the most common cancer with over 31,000 people being diagnosed every year!
- #1 in deaths of those diagnosed. Approximately 21,000 passing away within a year after diagnosis!
- #1 women’s cancer with over 10,000 women succumbing to this disease every year
With the caliber of researchers, the facilities; lung cancer is finally moving the needle to diagnose earlier, have better outcomes and give people a better quality of life. Achievements like moving the needle for those surviving 5 plus years from 19% to 22%.
With research like Evict Radon and the Early Screening program in Alberta many more people will be diagnosed at early stages like 1 and 2 where the outcomes and life expectancy are significantly better.
The Glans-Look through their research and tumor database have changed a number of the types of treatments patients receive, how effective they are. So much more.
Life starts with a breath and life ends with a breath. Join us so that we can make lung cancer an inconvenience not a tragedy.
This page is dedicated to supporting the fundraising initiatives led by lung cancer patient consultant., Diane Colton, who is an advocate of raising awareness and funding for lung cancer research. Donations made here will directly go towards research projects being undertaken at the University of Calgary and Cumming School of Medicine.
Everyone can be a pebble that creates the avalanche of change.
