The Riddell Centre for Cancer Immunotherapy is dedicated to advancing the creation of innovative immunotherapies for cancer patients. This work is enabled by a translational research ecosystem, bringing discoveries made in the lab directly to the patient’s bedside.
Innovative research is essential to tackle cancer's complexity, develop personalized treatments, and improve patient outcomes. Decades of research have made immunotherapy a viable treatment option, enhancing the immune system's ability to target cancer cells. Despite its promise, significant challenges remain, highlighting the need for continued research in this field.
Established in 2023 through a transformational gift from the Riddell family to the OWN.CANCER Campaign, the Riddell Centre for Cancer Immunotherapy is a research centre dedicated to meeting these challenges. As a core research focus of the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute, the centre brings together investigators from across multiple sites of activity, including the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM), the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre, and the Alberta Children’s Hospital, to advance progress in cancer immunotherapy research and innovation. In developing new immune-based therapies, the Riddell Centre is advancing the goal of making Calgary home to some of the best cancer research and care in the world.
Philanthropy has been instrumental in helping to advance this important research, which is improving the health of our population, changing policy, and reducing costs to our health care systems.
