Welcome to the online donation page for the Revolutions for Research Fundraising Event
In September 2021, the Cure Cancer Foundation is launching its first Calgary-based event - Revolutions for Research Charity Bike Ride - in partnership with the University of Calgary’s Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute to support the Oncology Outcomes (O2) for Real World Patients research program.
Harnessing data and machine learning to make cancer care more personal.
Most patients will fall in a category referred to as ‘real world patients’. These patients neither qualify for a clinical trial, nor do results of past trials directly inform their care. With minimal treatment options, predicting outcomes for real world patients is extremely important.
Led by Drs. Darren Brenner (epidemiologist) and Winson Cheung (cancer physician), the O2 team is applying data to address this current research gap. Using machine learning – a form of artificial intelligence whereby computer systems learn to identify patterns in large data sets – they are working to demonstrate how using data and analytics can provide better treatment options, improve health policies and develop predictive modelling and prevention strategies.
O2 research will help physicians and care teams better predict outcomes based on specific treatments (such as radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy) and other factors. More informed and individualized treatment options is critical to reducing uncertainty for patient decision-making.
Supporting a better tomorrow for cancer patients now and in the future.
With one in two Albertans facing a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, there is a pressing need to bring transformative change in the way cancer is prevented, detected and treated – your gift today will help do just that.
As part of the overall $5M funding need for the O2 program, donations will go directly towards funding new and improved computing infrastructure to enhance the overall cancer data capacity, machine learning and analytics research capabilities of the research.
Thank you for sharing in our vision for a better tomorrow. Your support will help us change the course of cancer care and treatment in Alberta and beyond.
Please note donations made through this page will be issued a tax receipt from the University of Calgary and are emailed to the information provided in the form below. If you have any issues or questions about making a donation, please contact:
