Early life
Jason was born in Owen Sound, Ontario and spent his childhood and teenage years there. After high school, Jason attended The University of Waterloo where he studied Political Science + Business. After he received his LLB from Western University.
Early career
Jason began his career in private practice, articling at Alloway & Associates and moving on to Chaitons where he was an Associate focused on litigation. Post Chaitons, Jason moved in-house at Xerox where he spent six years as legal counsel and program manager. The initiatives he focused on there, also marked his entrance into the world of legal innovation which was the defining focus of the rest of his career and life.
A trailblazing legal innovator
Post Xerox, Jason’s focus was purely on legal innovation - both in his own company, LawMade - and the organizations he formally collaborated with around the world including Conduit Law, Cognition LLP, Mischcon De Reya LLP, Elevate Services, Autologyx, MaRS Discovery District, CodeX @ The Stanford Centre for Legal Informatics, Trustbot, DCS, The Legal Innovation Forum and PwC.
Launched in 2016, LawMade was the fulcrum of Jason’s ongoing personal and professional mission and focused on consulting, convening and collaborating with legal innovators around the world - in Canada, the UK, the US and Australia. LawMade’s core raison d'être was to support makers, law firms, corporates, investors and other organizations to improve, grow, promote or create new products, services, processes and business models related to legal services.
Jason was a true trailblazer in the legal innovation space: driven, devoted and ahead of his time. This award’s purpose is to support the next generation of legal innovators on their own personal and professional missions. He is dearly missed by his family, friends and fellow innovators.
