CanDoR (Cancer Screening, Detection, and Risk Reduction Research Program)
The Cancer Screening, Detection, and Risk Reduction Research Program (CanDoR) is a multidisciplinary team of investigators dedicated to uncovering, enhancing, and highlighting cancer screening and detection strategies using diverse tools and datasets. The CanDoR team, led by Dr. Darren Brenner, a molecular epidemiologist, is making progress towards decreasing cancer in the population. The mission of the program is to transform the future impact of cancer through cutting-edge research.
By applying advanced analytics, our team, which includes epidemiologists, clinicians, biostatisticians, and computer scientists, works collaboratively to advance knowledge on cancer risk reduction and screening.
Leveraging provincial strengths in cancer screening, including past and current investments by the government and generous donors, such as those who made the Forzani-MacPhail Colorectal Cancer Screening Centre possible, this team will seek to expand cancer screening and detection in a cost-effective, impactful manner.
Through continued work, this team envisions opportunities for lung and breast cancer screening, two of the most common cancers, to follow a similar model as the Forzani-MacPhail Centre.
Philanthropy has been instrumental in helping to advance this important research, which is improving the health of our population, changing policy, and reducing costs to our health care systems.
Your support will go towards:
- New scientific recruitments
- More training opportunities
- Collecting and analyzing patient samples
- Expanding our computational capacity
- Developing and testing new strategies for screening and detection
