Christmas Cardio A Go-Go Fundraiser for the Libin Cardiovascular Institute
WE KEEP THE BEAT
Did you know that cardiovascular disease is the number one killer globally for both men and women? The Libin Cardiovascular Institute was established in 2003 and is the largest heart institute in western Canada and was sparked by a philanthropic collaboration between a grateful patient and the head of the Department of Cardiology.
I do not know if you know, but I too am a grateful patient of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute. In June 2022, I had some serious heart issues and the outcome seemed bleak. Living in a small town, the local medical services were not set up with the expertise I required. After one assessment at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, I was referred to the Libin Cardiovascular Institute the very next day. If that did not happen, chances are I would not be here today, organizing an evening of music and fun to raise funds for the Libin Cardiovascular Institute.
The Alberta Oil Patch supports one another; we are one big family! I have the capacity to help someone who helped me, and that is what families do! So, let’s get out and support a great cause, listen to some great music, have fun, raise some much-needed funds to support the greatest needs of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute. You never know when one of our own families will need the Libin Cardiovascular Institute.

Last month, the Libin Cardiovascular Institute celebrated its 20th anniversary, highlighting the vital role of philanthropy in enhancing cardiovascular health in southern Alberta. During the event, Dr. Jean-Lucien Rouleau, a leading clinician-researcher and head of the Canadian Heart Function Alliance, received the Libin Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Prize. The institute's achievements over the past two decades were made possible by the generosity of the Alvin and Mona Libin Family Foundation and Dr. Eldon Smith. You can find stories from the event and view the anniversary video online.
